The Design

It is a fun time for the Madras Elementary Schoolyard team. The final concept was approved by the Jefferson County 509-J School District in February.  Able Studios did a wonderful job of pulling together student and community ideas to create a beautiful design.  Nature, calming spaces, safety and diverse play were common themes that came from student and community visions for the schoolyard. The approved design has walking paths woven through the schoolyard.  There are outdoor-seating spaces in different areas of the schoolyard that can be used as outdoor classrooms, a picnic area or as an outdoor-event space. The front courtyard and schoolyard will be enhanced with native tree and plants.

The TPL team has been sharing the approved design throughout the community.  We have spent time with the Jefferson County Chamber of Commerce, Madras City Council, Jefferson County Commissioners and the Warm Springs Culture and Heritage Committee.  Community members were thrilled to see the future of the Madras Elementary Schoolyard.  There was a lot of appreciation for the nature theme and creative use of space.

Currently, our team is identifying the exact play structures and landscape features for the schoolyard.  The philanthropy team is working hard to apply for grants and gather funding to support the advancement of the project.  We are also exploring ideas for art and educational features.  Join us this month, for more community presentations to Kiwanis and Rotary.
