Global Village Weekend

We also got to make a side visit to Camp Elderberry!

The Alameda Community Schoolyard Team was busy last week making community connections in Ontario, Oregon. The purpose of their trip was twofold and began by holding a luncheon where they hosted a group of people comprising of local artisans and diversity/equity groups. The group discussed ways the Alameda schoolyard could artfully represent the beautifully diverse people of the area. Many great ideas came out of this time together and excitement for the project grew among those who attended.

The team was then able to host a booth at Ontario's America's Global Village event. This annual event, held in Lion's park, celebrates Ontario's diversity and gives opportunity for participants to learn about and experience various cultural expressions through food, dance, music, and games. Each representing culture hosted a tent where education was offered and stories told of those particular cultures. Event participants enjoyed special performances of music and dance on the mainstage as well as Scottish Highland Games in the center of the village. The Alameda Community Schoolyard Team was honored to host a table at this event and was able to meet with countless individuals of all ages and share about the new schoolyard coming to the community. It was thrilling to see the excitement of kids and adults alike as they began to dream with the team and share their ideas of what they would love to see incorporated in the design.
