It’s Official: We’re Coming to Alameda!

I don’t want to cause any alarm, but…IT’S HAPPENING!! On Monday, September 26, Project Manager Amanda Craig presented about the Ontario Community Schoolyard to the Ontario School District Board. (Spoiler alert: she knocked it out of the park.) Over the course of ten-or-so minutes, she outlined the myriad physical health, mental health, educational and environmental benefits that this project could bring to Alameda. We talked a little bit about the timeline for the project, fundraising, and the team that will be working to make this vision a reality.

After some short discussion, the School Board expressed their enthusiastic support of the project, and a support letter is being drafted as we speak. With the District’s blessing, we can officially move forward with our project. Yeehaw!

Now that we’ve got our foot on the gas, you’ll see a lot more updates here. We’ll be visiting for parent/teacher conferences in October to help spread the word to Alameda families, and soon we’ll get started on the participatory design process, where you’ll be able to tell us what kinds of features, play equipment, and activities you want to see in your new schoolyard.

If you want to keep in touch and get regular updates about our progress, you can sign up for our partner mailing list here, or just keep your eyes on the News section of our website. Stay tuned!
